What Is A Mini-Split System?
A mini-split HVAC system is essentially a ductless air conditioner. The mini-splits link HVAC units in individual rooms to the compressor which is installed outside. Interior units are equipped with evaporator coils and refrigerant. When warm air passes by the coils, it’s absorbed and the refrigerant sends the warm air out to the exterior unit. As you may have already guessed, this system makes “zoning” a breeze because you can adjust the temperature in each room. Some benefits of a mini-split system include:

You can adjust the temperature in your home as often as you like, but the system performs better when it runs continuously. It may seem counterintuitive but if you stop turning your ductless HVAC system on and off, your home’s temperature will stay consistent and you’ll waste less energy. Your mini-split system can also make heating and cooling decisions for you to maximize personal comfort while keeping your energy bill low.
The only problem you should be aware of is that mini-split systems don’t operate well in extreme cold. In Texas, that’s generally not a huge problem. But once you see freezing temperatures, an economy-level mini-split HVAC system could actually stop working. However, if that’s a concern, you can also ask your Superior AC HVAC technician about mid-level mini splits and low ambient mini-split systems that continue to perform in cooler temperatures.
